About Appleby Archaeology

Appleby Archaeology is focused on practical, field archaeology. Most of the Group's activities take place in the Appleby area but our interests range across the whole of Cumbria. Members receive four Newsletters a year and are entitled to attend both the winter lecture programme and summer events free of charge.

Winter Lecture Programme and Summer Events

Winter lectures take place in the Supper Room of the Market Hall in Appleby. Summer events take the form of evening walks and weekend excursions in the Eden Valley area and beyond

Training and Research

We have organized a variety of training activities in the past and are currently offering instruction in surveying and excavation techniques in association with Wardell Armstrong Archaeology through our ongoing research work at Brackenber Moor on the outskirts of Appleby

Conferences

In the past we have organised a biennial Summer Conference and, wherever possible, have published Proceedings. At present we have decided to concentrate our efforts on Research activities.
