About Appleby Archaeology
IntroductionAppleby Archaeology is focused on practical, field archaeology. Most of the Group's activities take place in the Appleby area but our interests range across the whole of Cumbria. Members receive four Newsletters a year and are entitled to attend the winter lecture programme free of charge.
Winter Lecture Programme and Summer EventsWinter lectures normally take place monthly between October and April each year. Summer events take the form of evening walks and weekend excursions into the Eden Valley area and beyond. See the Programme tab for details.
Training and ResearchWe have organized a variety of training activities in the past and are currently offering instruction in surveying and excavation techniques in association with Wardell Armstrong Archaeology through our ongoing research work.
ConferencesIn the past we have organised a biennial Summer Conference and, wherever possible, have published Proceedings. At present we have decided to concentrate our efforts on Research activities.
